Social Friday
Social Friday at the Hall
Join us for our first Social Friday on 19th July, from 11am to 12pm, at Great Wood Hall.
Come and enjoy tea, coffee, and biscuits while you reminisce about the history of our villages with our fascinating history books and photos.
This is a wonderful opportunity to socialise, explore our library, and learn more about Great Wood Hall.
We’d also love to hear your ideas for future activities.

Upcoming events
We have a fantastic selection of events coming up soon at Great Wood Community Hall, and we can't wait to share them with you.
Social Fridays on July 19th, September 20th, October 18th, and November 15th, from 11am to 12pm.
These events are free to enter and include tea, coffee, and biscuits - a perfect opportunity to socialise, explore our library, and learn more about Great Wood Hall.
Great Wood Community Fair on September 21st from 12pm to 4pm, celebrating local creativity with handmade and handcrafted items from our talented artisans.
Spooky Fancy Dress Halloween Party on October 26th, featuring spooky fun with costume contests, a disco, Halloween games, raffles, and best-dressed prizes.
Don't miss the Checkley Parish Christmas Festival on November 30th, featuring festive stalls, live entertainment, a magical lights switch-on, and pyrotechnics.
And on December 8th, "A Festival of Carols and Readings."

A Festival of Carols and Readings for Christmas
10th December
Doors Open 2.30pm
On Sunday 10th December - 2.30pm start we have a festival of carols for Christmas
Come and see Tean community singers, Great Wood and St Thomas school choirs and Uttoxeter town brass band.
free admission, bring all the family and join in a christmas celebration.
Checkley Parish Santa Sleigh Route
11th December
From 5pm
I'm excited to announce that Santa's sleigh will be visiting Upper Tean on December 11th, starting from 5 pm!
However, due to securing Santa's sleigh for just one magical evening, the route will be a bit different from the usual.
Santa will follow the main routes around the village of Upper Tean (Blue route on the map), and will make several stops along the way (Santa hats on the map).
Santa's first stop will be Great Wood Hall from 5pm.
A live tracker of Santa on his journey will be released on Monday 11th just before he begins the journey.
Great Wood Community Hall's Christmas Fayre
2nd December 2023
On Saturday 2nd December - 10am start we had our very own Christmas fayre.
The community came to see santa, warmed up with a nice hot drink and shopped for that perfect gift, MP Jack Brereton even popped along.
Checkley Parish festival of lights
1st December 2023
entertainment and stalls opened from 4pm at Great Wood Community Hall, followed with a Light Procession from St Thomas Catholic Primary School leading to Great Wood Community Hall
The community came to see santa, and our festival of lights, they took part in the light procession, listened to some beautiful live music and school choirs, joined in with Christmas carols, visited the stalls and watched the pyrotechnics.
Our Very own Spooky Fancy Dress Halloween Party
28th October
On Saturday 28th October 2023 - 6pm till late we had our very own Halloween Party
People arrived in their best most spooky Fancy dress, had fun with a Disco, lots of Halloween Games, Raffles and Best Dressed Prizes
Everyone brought their Own Drinks & Food and had a really good night
An OUTSIDE Stories Exchange project - Telling Tales in Tean
29th September, 30th September & 1st October 2023
Connecting communities, landscapes and myths
Storyteller Ian Douglas and shadow puppeteer Jo Douglas researched local myths and legends and arrived in Tean with a selection of local tales to tell.
Over three days, Ian and Jo performed and facilitated work-shops encouraging local people to tell their own tales about their community.
Ian and Jo will then weaved these narrative threads into a new tale performed back to the village residents in a storytelling finale
